Renshi Doug Avery started his Goju Ryu training at
Bak's Martial Arts in Hanover under Kyoshi John Bak, 7th Dan in the Fall
of 2000, a member dojo of the Canada Goju Karate Association headed by
the late Hanshi William "Bill" Hind,
9th Dan the most senior Goju Ryu practitioner in Canada.
He recieved his Shodan in 2007 from Hanshi Hind
then his Nidan in 2010 , Sandan in 2013 , Yondan in 2017
then was recognized to Godan and awarded the Renshi title by Kyoshi
John Bak in 2023.
While training in Hanover with Kyoshi Bak he was
introduced Kyusho Jitsu (Pressure Points) with Sensei Steve Stewart,
10th Dan , highest ranked in Canada.
In 2006 he was awarded his Kyusho Shodan by Sensei Stewart then
Nidan in 2010 and Sandan in 2013.
Renshi Avery has had the absolute pleasure of
training with some amazing martial artists over the years to
name just a few Hanshi William "Bill" Hind, 9th Dan,
Kyoshi John Bak, 7th Dan, Hanshi Gary Legacy, 10th Dan,
Hanshi Jay Purdy, 9th Dan, Kyoshi Skol Batraks, 8th Dan,
Renshi Jeff Hopping, 6th Dan Goju and 6th Dan Jujitsu,
Renshi Keith Harris, 5th Dan, Renshi Evan Hind,
6th Dan, Shihan Michael Den Tandt, 6th Dan. Renshi Avery continues to search for more
knowledge and growth on the martial arts path to pass on to his students.
